Dick Clark Thinks Trends Are Bullshit

I didn’t know what to expect when it came to sitting down with a man who is legend in Central Texas mid-century modern architecture circles. Well, Dick Clark, Principal FAIA at Dick Clark + Associates is pure Texan through and through. A University of Texas School Of Architecture and Harvard Graduate School of Design alum, he had just flown in from a week on a yacht with some best friends when he sat down with us between client meetings.

What follows is high octane and clarity.

When asked about the latest trends in architecture, Dick proclaims amongst other things, “Trends are bullshit!"

"Architecture is classic. It’s eternal...What style is hip and groovy is just bullshit.”

What’s not hot these days? “Anything that is _______! "….."The tract builders are still cranking that stuff out all over and the worst imitations of it…. I won’t go into that you’ll get me really going!” he says with the widest boyish grin of a man who has helped define modern architecture and design in Texas (and beyond) since 1979.

The excitement in his voice as he lives his definite purpose and passion each day is pure joy!

Tune in to find out more in this quick quip that’s sure to leave you smiling.

We hope you enjoy this interview as much as we did.
